Coming soon to Kenya - The Grand Fertilizer Scam

I, Coldtusker, GUARANTEE that the decision by the government of Kenya to import, subsidise & distribute fertilizer will be beset by multiple scams involving one or more of the following:

A - The 'wrong' (type, grades, mixes, combinations) fertilizer will be imported/distributed to the areas.

B - Politically connected firms & individuals (e.g. jackson kibor & maize) will buy the subsidised fertilizer & sell it at higher prices.

C - In many cases the fertilizer will reach the farmers AFTER the planting season is over. Or reach them when it is not as effective/ideal.

D - Gov't will ultimately deliver fertilizer at prices higher than what private firms can. If not for subsidies, the price of government fertilizer will be higher than private firms!

E - In some cases, the fertilizer will be left to 'spoil' & will be disposed off as 'junk' or 'obsolete' or 'ineffective'.

PLEASE quote me if any if the above does not happen IF the government goes ahead with the foolhardy idea of importing & distributing fertilizer through the NCPB.

They seem to be liberalizing and privatizing everything, so why not the agricultural sector?

Agree.
I thought NCB doesn't have money? Whoever felt they could trust Ruta/o with any ministry given his past reputation must be corrupt themselves...
We urgently need to let others come in and do NCB's job.

Did you the that the chairman of the company that bought that maize from Jackson"kikuyus must go home" Kibor has been maid a board member of NCB?

KE: I agree. Entirely. The government should get out of the maize & fertilizer business.

The government's role should be limited to strategic/emergency reserves.

MainaT: Mombasa Millers had no choice. Either buy from kibor (or anyone else) or shut down your factory. What would you do?

(BTW, the major millers were supposed to get the bulk of the 'subsidised' maize so they could sell at unga at lower prices but that never happened)

Yes .. I hate accusing anybody without evidence...But i have always had one exception..RUTO...I have maintained and believed ruto is a thief( havent been contradicted so far)....I agree with MT that any body giving a job this guy is corrupt to begin with........

FERTILISER & FOOD

Well i think Food is a security matter and any country worth its salt should subsidise the FARMER .Privatising inputs & maize is very dangerous (security wise).....In any case privatising itself wont gurantee any EFFECT till you route out corruption in the GOVERNMENT....

MainaT: There is always cash for corruption.

Did you know the GoK plans to pay Kes 270,000,000 for anglo-fleecing contracts?

Did you know that the GoK has REFUSED to supply evidence/proof to the UK authorities about anglo-fleecing?

Corruption is essentially termed as an "impairment of integrity, virtue or moral principle; depravity, decay, and/or an inducement to wrong by improper or unlawful means, a departure from the original or from what is pure or correct, and/or an agency or influence that corrupts."[1]

Corruption, when applied as a technical term, is a general concept describing any organized, interdependent system in which part of the system is either not performing duties it was originally intended to, or performing them in an improper way, to the detriment of the system's original purpose.
From Wicki
Maybe corruption is improvment on apathy
Apathy (also called impassivity or perfunctoriness) is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation and passion. An apathetic individual has an absence of interest or concern to emotional, social, or physical life. They may also exhibit an insensibility or sluggishness.
